Music shapes attitudes for a
Lifetime
Ages 5 to 7+
Young Child helps
every child develop a confident, joyful voice for singing and speaking
as well as essential building blocks for a future of learning.
Designed for children ages 5 to 7+ years, classes meet once a week for
60 minutes with the parents and siblings joining in with the fun the
last 15 minutes. Students explore and develop skills in many facets of the musical
experience such as speaking, singing, moving, dancing, listening,
creating and playing instruments, as well as learning about reading and
writing musical symbols and notation, and playing authentic
pre-keyboard, string, and woodwind instruments both solo and in
ensembles. Students are introduced to the glockenspiel in the
first year, and add the dulcimer and recorder in the second year
(entering grades 1 and 2--all new students begin with year 1).
Through creative, active learning opportunities, your child will begin
to read music and to create musical compositions, to explore and
identify orchestral instruments, become familiar with master works, and
discover music from other cultures! As the capstone to the child's Kindermusik
journey, Young Child broadens and deepens the child's
introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.
Kindermusik has given my twin girls an
opportunity to expand their imaginations through story telling and role
playing. They have developed stronger listening skills by
exploring different sounds in nature and in music which they then
learned to imitate with not only their voices but at times with their
whole bodies. It gave them an opportunity to interact with other
children their age. It was like a structured play date.

Children Learn Best When
Actively Engaged
Between the ages of 5 and 7+,
the young child learns best when he/she is actively engaged in making
music. While the need for more concrete information and skill
development is at hand, play remains the primary way the young child
learns. Throughout the Young Child curriculum, there is a
consistent effort to balance active learning that combines feeling with
the reasoning aspects of your child's development.
Young Child is not an
end product but rather a bridge between the music play of early
childhood and the more formal musical experiences of the middle
childhood years. Kindermusik brings to your child a journey
of learning through song, laughter, listening, and performing. The
journey of musical learning can last a lifetime. Enjoy this part
of the trip with your young child!
Music
develops the appetite for learning and creates habits of
self-discipline and personal tenacity which carry over
into every facet of school. Young musicians are
skilled at concentration, alertness, memory, and
self-control. These attributes are basic for
success in higher education, but more importantly, in
succeeding at life. The Joy of Inspired Teaching,
by Tim Lautzenheiser, P. 55.
