Goals for Students
Good tone quality, proper
posture, solid technique, ear training, practice techniques, relaxation,
making music rather than just playing notes, sight-reading, rhythmic
competency, proper stage etiquette, along
with confidence and ease in performance. The study of music
touches everything else in life. I encourage self esteem and self
discipline as well as an artistic sensibility and intellect. There
is one thing I strongly believe: the study of music makes one's
life better.
Since one of the lesson goals
is learning to perform, participation in recitals, group lessons and any
performance opportunity is always encouraged. There will be annual
recitals before Christmas and in late Spring. Group Lessons are
scheduled in November, January, March and May. They offer many
benefits including general music knowledge, music appreciation,
opportunity to observe students of comparable abilities, develop poise,
proper posture, learn appropriate piano etiquette and general
reinforcement of theory and techniques by viewing and hearing other
students and playing games.
A 15 minute lab time is
scheduled in addition to their private lesson time of either 30 or 45
minutes. This helps to further the goals listed above through
computer programs, focused listening, theory, sight-reading,
rhythmic competency and specific
assignments on the digital piano.
